Quatuor
Where the Baudouin building once stood now stands Quatuor, a modern workplace with remarkable architecture. The building produces 30% of its own energy, has a rainwater recycling system and meets the passive house standard. This has earned it the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ label, a seal of approval for achieving sustainable environments. Therefore, an aluminium design for the exterior fits perfectly into this approach, as it is very insulating, ecological and 100% recyclable.
A quartet of buildings equipped with sustainable solutions by Reynaers Aluminum
To honour the design of the original Boudewijn building, Jaspers-Eyers Architects opted for playful, organic shapes in the design on Quatuor. There are curved facades both inside and outside - beautiful, but much more complex than a straight design. Fortunately, Reynaers Aluminum had a suitable solution for this!
Highly insulating and 100% recyclable
Aluminium insulates well against cold and heat and meets all legal requirements regarding energy efficiency. These strong insulation properties are further optimised by the solutions we offer at Reynaers Aluminium. Aluminum is 100% recyclable and can be reused without loss of quality. Moreover, the recycling of aluminium requires minimal energy usage.
Aluminium is extremely durable, UV rays or moisture have little effect, and it does not rust or rot. Precisely for these reasons, the material has been used in buildings for a very long time. The life cycle of aluminium windows and doors is on average more than 40 years but can last more than 60 years. During this long life cycle, our solutions contribute to the energy efficiency of buildings.
Our continuous focus on research and development results in energy-efficient solutions for energy-efficient homes and buildings. Thanks to excellent insulating properties, our products can reduce the environmental impact of new and existing buildings. Finally, the limited maintenance of aluminium windows and doors further reduces their environmental impact during their life cycle.
Virtual mock-up in AVALON
There are always some challenges with a project of this size. Nevertheless, the risks were limited by first creating a virtual mock-up in AVALON.
AVALON is a virtual reality application developed specifically for architectural applications. Thanks to this tool, architects can literally walk around in their design and immediately get a clear picture of the possibilities and the impact of their choices on the appearance of the building.
In this way, decisions are immediately tested against practical feasibility and technical problems also become clear. This saves a huge amount of time during the decision-making process. At Reynaers Aluminium, we want to be more than a supplier of high-quality profile systems, we want to share our expertise and provide tailor-made solutions for every challenge.
There was also extensive preparation on a technical level. Airtightness and watertightness were checked in the Reynaers Aluminum test centre. Additional acoustic measures were even taken on the side of the Brussels ring road, because there is more ambient noise from traffic here.
